Do you want to know the truth? Most of the time…I only wash my hair once a week. Before you jump to conclusions and think that I must be crazy, I’ll let you in on my secret: Even celebrity hairstylist Justin Anderson of dpHUE agrees. When you use good quality hair care products and a good hair routine, that’s really all you need! I personally have a lot of fun playing around with hairstyles that work for second-day, third-day, even sixth-day hair!!! And it’s a lot easier than you think. I know you’re excited to find out more, so keep reading for 7 days of hairstyles and my updated hair routine 🙂
DAY-BY-DAY HAIR ROUTINE
Here’s a day-by-day guide to my personal hair routine that you can use to get your locks shiny and healthy all week long, too.
Day 1: PROFESSIONAL BLOW DRY + TREATMENT
About once a week, I have my hair appointment and I get my natural waves smoothed and blown dry. Of course I skip sometimes–taking breaks from the high heat of blowouts is important to keep your hair alive, vibrant, and naturally shiny.
Most of the time, I’m getting my blowouts with Lindsey at Salon Lofts! I have known Lindsey for a while now and she is my go-to. I seriously go once a week for a blowout and she nails it every time! After every appointment I can’t help but put her all over my Instagram. Check her out @locksbylindss.
The rest of the time, I play it by ear based on my schedule and which salons have availability.
Another go-to is Ambra Salon, for cut and highlights!! My girl is Mira and she rocks it every time. I take Leonix with me because Paolo does the coolest cuts for boys 🙂 You can also get 20% here by mentioning my name!
I also love getting my hair done by Alex Brown. She is a celebrity hairstylist that works with clients like the Kardashians! She is only in Chicago a couple weeks a year, so I make a point to see her when she’s in town. She does amazing cuts, hairstyles & extensions.
Day 2: STAY FRESH WITH DRY SHAMPOO
Just one day after getting a professional blowout is really too soon to wash your hair and ruin your beautiful look. Just touch it up with a bit of dry shampoo to stay fresh. If you feel like the wind or activities have gotten the best of your look, you can wear a stylish hat to rescue your ‘do!
My favorite is from Ouai! If you want links to all of my favorite hair products, including this secret weapon dry shampoo, keep reading until the bottom of this post!
Day 3: HALF-UP TOP KNOT
This look is one of my secret weapons. I put my hair up in a half-up bun, and I always get compliments on how cute my hair looks. Leaving some hair down keeps the blowout alive and handles the third-day texture! This look is super easy to do last minute. It’s supposed to look a bit messy – that’s half of the fun!
Day 4: HIGH PONYTAIL
The classic high ponytail goes with any look and lets your face shine. Seriously it just opens your face and brightens your look!! I love this hairstyle for any playful, edgy, or girly mood.
Day 5: PRINCESS LEIA UPDO OR BRAIDED HAIRSTYLES
Still haven’t washed my hair yet, ladies! Why would it when it still feels great and looks even better! Braid and updo hairstyles are always impressive and can add an edge to any look.
One super cool idea is an updo with tiny braids! I got mine professionally done by Pretty Convenient, but you can do whatever braids work for you.
The Princess Leia updo became one of my absolute favorites almost 10 years ago when I learned how to style it in Ukraine. All you need is an elastic band and voila, you’ve just taken your messy braids to another level.
At NYFW in 2017, I forgot to bring an elastic band with me, and I only realized this about 5 minutes before I had to run to my next show. I had to think fast, so I cut the stretchy band from the hotel shower cap and that worked too!
I was pretty proud of my creativity on this one. Check out this less than 2 minutes tutorial I recorded myself especially for you.
Day 6: TOP KNOT
This is so easy to do! It’s really just me collecting my hair and throwing it all together with some pins! But shhh, no one needs to know that! Here’s a great tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCmfHC8P2dM
Day 7: WILDCARD HAIRSTYLES
At this point, I’m usually rocking a trendy hat, messy braid, or both, or another high bun, or just wash my hair again. Depends on my mood, what I have going on that day, and of course, what I’m wearing!

HAIR SPRAY: A must have for most hairstyles! I’m sticking to my Ouai hair routine again here.
MOUSSE: When I wash my hair myself, I always apply a little bit of mousse to lock in my waves and I let my hair dry naturally. Living Proof is my favorite mousse.
