There is something magical about the first day you step outside and the trees changing colors and leaves on the ground. Immediately I start thinking about cozy fall outfits! And of course my first thought is the colors that are trending every fall–red, orange, and brown. But I have some news for you–not this year! 2020 keeps surprising us, specially in the colors we see trending on every runway and street style Insta pic. 2020 fall color trends are all about lightness and pastels, instead of the dark, warm tones that we are used to seeing. I love the unexpected trends of fashion, so I am here for it!
It is definitely refreshing to see these gorgeous light colors our fall capsule wardrobes. Not only is it a fun new trend to experiment with, but its a way we can keep our summer items transitioning into fall with us! I am excited to start styling with these fall color trends, and I know you are too, so let’s dive into it.
BABY BLUE
Baby blue is arguably one of the easiest fall color trends to pull off, because it pairs well with both neutrals and bold hues. This year, baby blue can be styled with head-to-toe black for an Insta-worthy outfit pic. Or, go for something adventurous and pair it with bold colors like pink.
WHITE
I’ve said it before and I will say it again… not wearing white after Labor Day is the biggest fashion myth! Actually, fall and winter is my favorite time of year to wear white because it just adds that clean, bright pop to every look. And since I love to be unexpected, wearing white as a neutral instead of black is the way to go. I need to have white pieces in everything from blazers, to cardigans, to coats, to shoes.
ANIMAL PRINT
Personally, I’ve had a long journey with animal print but it ends with a beautiful love story. At this point, my animal print pieces are some of my favorite statement pieces in my wardrobe!! Especially my leopard blazer (sold out but linking similar here.) Normally animal print is understated, but this season we are going all out. Be bold with this animal print midi dress from Topshop, pair it with booties and a leather jacket for a more toned down approach. And of course you can’t miss this leopard sweater, which is a #1 bestseller on Amazon year after year.
PLAID
Okay, yes, we’ve seen plaid on the Autumn/Winter runways before and we’ll see it again. So what’s different this year? It’s how we’re styling plaid!! Go bold with mixed plaids head to toe, in full sets like this plaid skirt and blazer combo (P.S., skirt suits are another big trend this year.)
LEATHER
Leather might not be a color, but it’s worth mentioning as a pattern/texture that should have a permanent place in your fall wardrobe! Black leather is chic as ever and is the perfect addition to your updated fall wardrobe. Of course I recommend the go-to leather jacket, high-waisted leather leggings, and leather biker shorts.
