Living in the beautiful city of Chicago for many years now, I’ve learned to love fall sweaters. The start of fall means it’s time to start dressing for the colder temperatures. Not only are sweaters super functional this time of year but they can also be super stylish, and you know I’m all about style!
Sweaters aren’t traditionally known as a super chic piece in an outfit, but this season there are so many insane sweaters that can instantly transform your favorite fall look. I’ve been on the hunt for some great new sweaters for myself and my clients for the season and it’s safe to say there’s no shortage of options.
I wanted to give you a little sweater inspiration for your own wardrobe, so I put together a selection of some of my current favorites.
TRENDY CARDIGAN SWEATERS
This season, cardigans went from drab to fab. I love layering a cardigan over graphic tees or a feminine blouse for extra warmth and stylish detail. Try a cardigan in an interesting color or pattern, or a new texture like this fringe one from Kobi Halperin. Style tip: roll or scrunch the sleeves up for a more flattering and dimensional look!
CROPPED SWEATERS
My go-to layering piece this season has been a cropped sweater. They pair perfectly with anything high waisted like your favorite denim, but I also love to wear them over long dresses or skirts for a playful outfit. I have been obsessing over this embroidered sweater from Alice and Olivia!
OVERSIZED SWEATERS
I am always a huge fan of anything oversized. It has a very cool effect and I personally love to buy seaters a size up. Style tip: wearing boots with a little heel is the most flattering look with an oversized sweater so you look taller and the proportions are balanced. Try a big sweater like this graphic one from Alice and Olivia over leather leggings with a great pair of booties.
SWEATER DRESSES
I love love love wearing dresses because they are so effortless… you don’t have to match an outfit, its just one piece! Sweater dresses are no exception to this rule. In the colder months, I love wearing a sweater dress like this one from Asos with a waist belt and a great pair of over-the-knee boots for an easy, cozy, and chic outfit.
SWEATER LAYERING TIPS
To make you sweaters even more stylish, layer them with another trendy piece. My go-to is layering any button down under your sweater, with the collar and sleeves pulled out and rolled, like the look in this photo featuring this stunning textured sweater from The Order. Other ideas include a turtleneck underneath, or a great statement jacket on top and pull the sweater sleeves out.
