Every season I like to play around with a new style or trend, and this summer, it’s the kimono. This look is so interesting and different — I love it! You can dress it up or keep it casual, but my favorite part is how versatile it is for Chicago summers! It’s light, so you can throw it on over your day outfit, but it creates a great layered look when you head out for the evening.
If you’ve never thought about the kimono as a staple to your wardrobe, now is the time! I have a few tips today on how to style this look and why you need one in your closet!
I love wearing a long kimono with a pair of shorts, like this Christina Karin scallop hem pair. Speaking of wardrobe staples, these shorts should be on that list too! I really like mixing the white top and bottom with the pale pink kimono — if you’re ever unsure of what color to wear, neutrals are always a good idea. I went with all neutrals here and really like how it turned out — especially with these MayFly Nike sneakers. They’re so comfortable, but stylish, which makes them perfect for chasing around the kids and running errands. By far my favorite affordable sneakers so far.
Another great thing about this style is the forgiving factor. As a mom, I like to make sure I’m wearing things that flatter my figure, and with the flowy style of this kimono, I always feel confident and happy. No matter what your body type is, this look will compliment your shape.
A second way to style this look is with a mini dress. This makes it a little sexier, but the kimono keeps it casual enough for a nice dinner or night out with the girls. If you want to mix in a kimono with a mom-on-the-go type of look, I think layering it with a basic tee and a pair of jeans is perfect. You’ll be able to run after the kids and still look very stylish. It’s always great when you can find a happy medium between fashion trends and being a practically-dressed mom.
