As many of you may know, we have just kicked off renovations in the home Jason and I have shared for over ten years, and our family of four is currently camped out in a (much) smaller apartment while the work is being done. I am honestly loving the closeness, but with my birthday and Mother’s Day both falling on the same weekend, it was the perfect excuse to treat ourselves to a luxury staycation at the Four Seasons!
ME TIME
The first night, I took some much-needed “me time” and had a girls’ night in with one of my besties, Lana. If you’re also a mom, do I even need to tell you what an amazing experience it was to have a leisurely dinner in the art-filled Allium restaurant and talk without being interrupted? One of my favorite things about the Four Seasons hotel is its location, so the next morning (after sleeping in, natch!) Lana and I headed out to do a little retail therapy at Michael Kors and Bloomingdales.
FAMILY TIME
My special weekend got even better when my children and husband checked in. After a few minutes of Katya and Leonix running around and exploring our beautifully-appointed suite, we headed down to the pool—the most beautiful one in Chicago if you ask me. Then, we hadn’t been back in our room long when there was a knock at the door. Imagine my kids’ excitement when they saw an ice cream cart roll into the room! The server made the experience extra entertaining and had all of us laughing in between making our sundaes. Katya and Leo were so enthralled with him, he even managed to get a picture of them with their ice cream before they devoured it.
A delicious surprise!
My extra special birthday and Mother’s Day gift from the Katya and Leonix!
INCREDIBLE WITH KIDS
The Four Seasons staff are all incredible with kids, and the hotel has thought of literally everything to make a family’s stay magical. From the hideaway tent they brought to our suite, to the well-stocked supply of DVDs they offered, to the plush mini-robes (my heart!) they provided, to the exclusive Skyscraper dolls they gifted us, my kids’ faces were constantly lighting up with all the fun little surprises.
MOTHER’S DAY BRUNCH
That being said, I have to report that when I asked them what their favorite part was, they both said the food! And I totally understand why: after indulging in room service, we all agreed that the waffles were hands down the best in the city.
But what really wowed us was the Mother’s Day brunch buffet at Allium. In addition to essentially any of our favorite foods we could imagine, there was a caviar station, the sickest seafood station I’ve ever seen, and my personal favorite: chocolate shoes.
There were so many sweet moments over the weekend, but I have to say the one that stands out was seeing my daughter help her little brother get his food from the buffet. While me-time is nice once in a while, what truly makes me happy is seeing my kids happy. Spending the weekend all together at the Four Seasons was the perfect way to celebrate my birthday and Mother’s Day, and I am already thinking of reasons to go back!
Be sure to tag me in your photos when you visit—you are going to thank me!
