When I style myself in the morning, I naturally reach for denim or yoga pants — can you relate? But now with summer finally here, I’m challenging myself (and you) to go for skirts instead! If you’re struggling with styling skirts or are just looking for inspiration, this post is definitely for you. Here is how to style skirts for summer.
Casual
For a casual day I love wearing my skirts with basic t-shirts and topping off the look with a bomber jacket, light cardigan or light leather jacket. Style it with comfy, edgy loafer or booties — or simply white sneakers like superstars by Adidas. Perfect outfit for mama on the go!
Minis
When I wear mini skirts or a style that shows a lot of leg, I prefer to wear a more conservative top like long sleeves or a blouse with a jacket. This just makes the outfit more elegant and I feel more appropriate for my age. Check out this and this post to see what I mean.
Midi and Maxi
I love styling midi and maxi skirts with bodysuits. It’s such an on-trend option, especially if you add a belt. This look really emphasizes your waistline and is very flattering for the hourglass body shape. If you’re looking for a nice option, I am obsessed with this SisterM laser cut skirt! It’s so versatile too — I have worn it with a basic tee and bodysuits — both of which work great for day and night. I seriously can’t get enough of this look!
There’s also the fitted midi skirt to think about! It works really well with cropped tops and a jacket so you can show just a little bit of skin and give off the perfect combination of sexiness and elegance. Here, I styled my midi skirt with a leather cropped top.
Fit
I also want to touch on fit because I know that can be a real point of confusion when in the store dressing room or at home in your closet. You want to choose the style of skirt that is going to be most flattering on your figure, so remember these quick tips!
Maxis can help to elongate your legs if you’re on the shorter side, but be careful with midis because they can cut your legs off at an awkward length depending on your height.
If you have a slim waist and want to show that off, you can go with a flowy or a-line cut (long or short), but remember to balance it out with a fitted top (cue the bodysuit!).
If you love your legs, go with the midi!
